This week’s hero, Akvilė, leads an incredibly active life with her partner. The couple loves to travel, especially skiing – Akvilė even celebrated her birthday on the slopes this year! However, when they returned home, they noticed that the bedroom, where they rest after their adventures, was too dark. The room in their old apartment lacked sunlight and had dark furniture, which they wanted to replace to transform the space into a peaceful, green retreat. To make this happen, they worked with our interior designer, Marija Neringa.

Before the renovation

Interior designer‘s task:

  • Design the bedroom where the couple can sleep comfortably, easily keep it tidy and feel cosy.
  • Provide space not only for clothes but also for documents, and replace the owner’s existing vanity with a more space-efficient solution.
  • Set up different lighting scenarios: main lighting to brighten the entire room, task lighting for reading in bed, and soft mood lighting to create a relaxing atmosphere before sleep.
  • Preserve and highlight a special feature of the bedroom – a handcrafted bas-relief created by the heroine’s father.

Take a look at the result!

The most important piece of furniture in the bedroom is the bed. We chose the IDANÄS bed frame with a firm mattress and stylish legs, which keep the room light and elegant. A breathable duvet helps control the temperature while sleeping. And to make getting out of bed more pleasant, we placed low-pile TVERSTED rugs on each side of the bed.

To bring more life and light into the bedroom, the interior designer chose a beige palette with accents in Akvilė's favourite green colour.

Wardrobes on both sides of the bed

To create enough space for clothes, documents and jewellery, storage was placed in an unusual spot. Instead of a standard wardrobe, we added a PAX system on both sides of the bed, with sections for short and long clothes, plus extra drawers to replace a dresser.

As Akvilė mentioned her love for PAX furniture series with KOMPLEMENT organisers, the interior designer included pull-out trays: one for men’s accessories and one for women’s jewellery, keeping everything organised.

The space above the bed was also used by adding BESTÅ cabinets with LAPPVIKEN fronts, matching the wardrobe doors. These cabinets are perfect for storing documents and other items that aren’t used often.

The quality of sleep directly depends on the air we breathe. That’s why a stylish FÖRNUFTIG air purifier was placed in the corner of the bedroom.

The VARDÖ bed storage box is a smart solution for a small bedroom. Thanks to the castors on the base, it's easy to roll in and out, making it perfect for storing duvets, pillows or seasonal clothing. With the fabric lid closed, the items stay dust-free.

The empty wall opposite the bed was dedicated to an inspiring display of BERGSHULT shelves with potted plants, books and picture frames, creating something to admire before falling asleep.

Instead of traditional bedside tables, we added narrow shelves behind the headboard for lamps, books, phones and other small items, and above them, in the most visible spot, we placed Akvilė’s father’s bas-relief.

The large NISSEDAL mirror is perfect for beauty routines while also reflecting natural daylight. The STRANDMON footstool next to the mirror serves multiple purposes as well – a comfortable seat, a handy spot for a handbag, or a place to keep a folded bedspread while sleeping.

“When setting up a bedroom, make sure there’s enough cosy lighting, but don’t forget blackout curtains – they help create the darkness needed for a good night’s sleep. With them up, street lights won’t get in the way of sweet dreams.”
