“Home idea with IKEA”: a bedroom, a living room or both?

This week, our interior designers tackled an interesting challenge: crafting a comfortable bedroom, a cosy living room and ample storage space, all within a single room. Eager to see if it worked? Have a look and decide for yourself.

Before the renovation

Geda lives in a two-room apartment with her husband and daughter. Up until now, they've shared one room. However, with the daughter moving to her own room now, a couple desires to renovate their former bedroom. Before the makeovers, this space lacked cosiness, adequate storage and the welcoming ambiance one craves after a long day's work.

Two in one

We started the makeovers by dividing the room into two areas – the living room and bedroom – with a light and airy sheer curtain. It allows ample sunlight to filter through and can be drawn or pulled back as required. To enhance cosiness and visually define the living room space, we placed a TIDTABELL rug on the floor. An anti-slip underlay keeps the rug in place, which reduces the risk of slipping and makes it easier to vacuum. Additionally, the underlay shields the floor from scratches and adds an extra layer of softness.

A space of sweet dreams

When life is busy, transitioning into relaxation mode at home can often be challenging. However, a pastel-coloured bedroom adorned with clutter-free storage solutions and a serene atmosphere can significantly aid in unwinding.

• In the centre of the bedroom, we placed a KLEPPSTAD bed frame with a soft padded headboard.
• Complementing this, we selected a VAGSTRANDA mattress equipped with dual layers of pocket springs, offering superior comfort and support. These springs adjust to the body's contours, responding to movements and relieving body tension.
• Ensuring longevity and cleanliness, we incorporated the GRUSNARV waterproof mattress protector, safeguarding the mattress against stains and dirt.
• Additional components essential for a restful night's sleep include the ergonomic KVARNVEN pillow, which regulates temperature and provides cooling comfort, as well as the versatile STJÄRNBRÄCKA duvet designed for all seasons. The duvet contains lyocell fibres which breathe and absorb moisture, ensuring a comfortable and dry sleep. 

 

The largest piece of furniture in the living area is the PAX wardrobe, serving not only as a storage solution for clothing but also for various other items. Its pull-out trays, featuring soft felt inserts, are perfect for organising jewellery, sunglasses, watches or other accessories. Additionally, the glass shelf above the pull-out tray keeps all items dust-free without obstructing the view.

For books and other belongings

BILLY bookcases boast remarkable versatility and can be used for much more than just books or magazines. With options for glass or wooden doors, you have the freedom to choose what to hide and display. Family reading materials and cherished items can be beautifully showcased behind glass, while lower cabinets provide ample space for storing boxes with other belongings.
 

Instead of a usual side table, we decided to complete the living room space with NISSAFORS trolley. It is easy to move around and can be used in different ways, including as an extra work area in the kitchen, as practical storage by the sofa or as a bedside table in the bedroom.

We're not fans of bare walls

Wall space is too valuable to go to waste. While we often opt for storage solutions on the walls, in this bedroom, we've chosen to showcase them instead. Decorative shelves, lighting chains, pictures, paintings and posters add character to the room and effectively occupy the otherwise empty walls.
