A large family currently lives in the house built by their grandparents: mother Vaida, father Egidijus and their four children – three-year-old Žygimantas, seven-year-old Daumantas, ten-year-old Vilhelmas and fourteen-year-old Benediktas. The four brothers share a room in the attic, where they sleep, practise gymnastics, do their homework, play board games and, of course, each one wants as much space as possible for themselves and their personal hobbies! To fulfil this wish, our interior designers Gabija and Alantė came to the family home.
Interior designers‘ task:
- Make the most of the attic room by creating separate spaces for the four brothers to sleep, study and play.
- Find smart ways to give each child their own space, even though there are no walls to divide the room.
- Replace tall furniture with practical solutions that can be securely placed in an attic, while making sure there's plenty of room for clothes, toys and all the things kids need.
We divided the large space into four parts: each child has their own personal area with a bed and desk, while in the centre of the room, there’s a shared wardrobe and a table for family games.

No walls needed
Dividing the space into zones was made easy with the ELVARLI storage system. At home, it’s not only a great alternative to walls but also a lifesaver when there’s nowhere to secure a standard wardrobe. In this room, the ELVARLI furniture serves as both a wardrobe section for hanging clothes and a shelving unit with drawers for toys or books. Even more, when filled with items, this open system can also add a stylish touch to the room.
One bedroom for each
Each brother’s bedroom is separated by curtains and has a comfortable SLÄKT bed with a mattress designed for quality sleep. For the youngest, we chose an extendable bed that will grow together. It can be fixed in three positions and extended up to 2 metres, making the same bed serve for years to come.
In the children's rooms, it's important to have enough space for toys and other belongings. We decided to hide some of them in deep storage boxes under the beds. Boxes on castors are easy to pull out or push back in and can also be used as a bedside table.

More room for imagination
Various colours and patterns inspire and help develop children's creativity. That’s why we chose colourful bed linen with playful cushions for the brothers' room and added a few rugs on the floor. They not only warm up the space but also help define different zones within the room.

From homework to fun!
In the updated room, each brother has his own desk and chair. The TROTTEN and RELATERA desks are height-adjustable, making them perfect for drawing, studying, and homework, while maintaining good posture for many years.
For the younger ones, we added a couple of trolleys to store art supplies, making it easy to move them around for different activities.
Children’s study furniture
Perfect for family game time
The family is lucky to have such an open and free space. However, when it comes to sitting down together for a game, it wasn’t always clear where the best spot would be. To solve this, we placed the NORDEN gateleg table next to the ELVARLI storage system, along with bold KYRRE stools. The table with drop-leaves easily seats the family of six, and after playing, it can tuck neatly against the wall while the stools stack on top of each other, taking up almost no space.

A wardrobe? No, this is way better!
Instead of a standard wardrobe, we created a walk-in using PLATSA and ELVARLI modular storage systems. Since the walls in the children's room are quite low, we chose PLATSA frames that match the height and planned some chests of drawers with playful green and yellow handles. Opposite the chests, there's an open ELVARLI system with clothes rails and drawers for small items. It has enough space for all four brothers' garments and makes it easy to keep things tidy. Not in the mood to organise? The open storage system can be hidden out of sight by simply pulling the curtains closed.
“The biggest challenge in designing this room was managing the open space. Since four children of different ages will be living here, it was important to come up with a solution that gives each of them some privacy. This led to the idea of hanging curtains: while they don’t provide complete sound isolation, they help separate from the shared space and add a sense of cosiness.”
