How to install the TRÅDFRI gateway kit

The IKEA Home smart app and gateway make it easy to control your home lighting. Set timers to wake you up, create lighting scenes and moods and even control individual lights. Watch the video and learn how to get started with the TRÅDFRI gateway kit.

Install the TRÅDFRI dimming kit (colour and white spectrum)

Install the TRÅDFRI motion sensor kit

Open the lid on the back of the motion sensor and install the included batteries. Set the symbol on the moon to have the light triggered by the motion sensor only when it’s dark or set it on the sun sensor to have it work when it’s daylight. You can also set the time to have it turn off after 1, 5 or 10 minutes of no motion.

Add/Remove Light Sources

Add bulbs, doors and panels

It’s easy to add light sources such as bulbs, doors and panels to your remote control.
  1. Install the light source and turn on the main power switch.
  2. Keep the remote within 5cm of the light source and press the pairing button for 10 seconds (located under the remote control lid).
  3. A red light will shine on the remote control and, when it’s successfully paired, the light source will dim and flash once.

Add several bulbs

If you have a light source with more than one light bulb that sit close together, you’ll need to pair them one by one. Install your first light bulb, pair it and then remove it. Then install the second light bulb, pair it and remove it, etc. Do this with all the light bulbs.

Remove bulbs, doors or panels

To remove a smart light source, perform a factory reset of it by toggling the main switch 6 times.

Add a light bulb to the TRÅDFRI dimming kit

To extend your TRÅDFRI dimming kit with another bulb, install the bulb and turn on the main power switch. Keep the wireless dimmer within 5cm of the bulb. Press the pairing button for 10 seconds (located under the top cover). When it’s successfully paired, the light source will dim and flash once.

Add a light bulb to the TRÅDFRI motion sensor

To extend your TRÅDFRI motion sensor kit with another bulb, install the bulb and turn on the main power switch. Keep the motion sensor within 2cm of the bulb and press the pairing button for 10 seconds (located on the back). When it’s successfully paired, the light source will dim and flash once and a red light will shine on the front of the motion sensor.
