“Home idea with IKEA”: a new living room for festive family gatherings

The old living room brings back to Soviet times. It has not been renovated for a couple of decades and is furnished with heavy furniture that takes up a lot of space, as well as dark curtains and outdated wallpapers. The interior features many different colours and patterns, but lacks cosiness.

After
Gailutė and Danius wanted to have a bright living room where they could comfortably watch TV and relax, and accommodate all their children and grandchildren at one table during the holidays. The interior designer Ūla decided to take this challenge and set up three rooms in one, including a living area, a dining area and a guest room.

“Since the living room features only one window, I tried to fix the lack of natural light by choosing lighter colours for the walls and furniture. I also installed some adjustable LED spotlights on the ceiling. They let easily direct the light to where you need it, from the dining area, to the sofa or TV.”

Living room: spending time together
While at home, Gailutė and Danius like to spend their time watching TV. To prevent them from distraction of the surrounding objects while watching a new movie or their favourite show, the interior designer has planned some closed BESTÅ cabinets with white fronts. They are perfect for hiding various knick-knacks. And if the couple decides to have more colours at home, they can replace the white doors with some new ones. There are many to choose from in the BESTÅ series.

Guest room: welcoming guests and themselves
The GRUNNARP sofa-bed may look small, but it can comfortably seat three people and accommodate two guests to stay for a night when unfolded. The large storage space under the seat has plenty of room for bedlinen. Besides, it is a great place for another hobby of Gailutė. After getting comfortable and turning on the NYMÅNE floor lamp, she will be able to embroider and store her finished embroideries inside the KVISTBRO storage table.

Dining room: celebrating with family
With EKEDALEN extendable table, you can simply adjust the length to make space for all types of activities, from everyday dining to celebrating special occasions. This table take up very little space, but offers plenty of room for guests and additional chairs. To keep everything within arm's reach during the celebration, Ūla has designed a large side cabinet for books, souvenirs, tableware and textiles right at the dining table.
