The family of Ramunė, Gediminas, their teenage daughter Aleksandra and a toddler Oskaras are here for two reasons. They want to start the makeovers in their tiny seaside cottage and prove that Šventoji is much more than just a soviet resort by the sea. See how our interior designer Eglė succeeded in making the family dreams come true.

Before the renovation
Ramunė and Gediminas received the summerhouse in Šventoji as a wedding gift. It’s been already thirteen years that they are married, but the summerhouse itself hasn’t changed much since then. The tiny seaside cottage comes with a terrace, a kitchen and a shared room that serves not only as a bedroom of four, but also as a lounge area, a play room, and a reading room when it’s too cool to spend time with a book on the terrace. There is no wardrobe in the shared space, since it had to be sacrificed to install a shower and a toilet.

Feel the vacation inside and out
This tiny cottage is a place for the family summer vacation. Here, they come to rest and forget about everyday worries. Therefore, Eglė tried to create an interior that sets the summer mood through light, natural colours and seaside motifs. The interior designer has changed the layout of the room and divided it into two separate areas for kids and adults.
The bigger room now combines a kitchen, a living room and a bedroom for parents. To save space and make it more functional, all furniture in this room is easy to transform or fold when not in use. A folding MARYD coffee table with a removable tray, a gateleg table and folding chairs are only a few of those.
The HOLMSUND sofa-bed is here for guests and relaxation during the day, and turns into a parents sleeping space at night. Its covers can be removed and washed, which is crucial for a family with kids. Next to the sofa-bed, Eglė has placed a LERSTA floor-reading lamp that lets enjoy reading at home, and has finished the interior with some BURHULT/SANDSHULT shelves to display the family photos or other precious and lovely items.

It includes six complete cabinets with drawers and shelves, and is easy to complement with different fronts or appliances. Since the cottage lacks ventilation ducting system, the LAGAN extractor hood comes with charcoal filters. To leave more space for cooking on the kitchen worktop, Eglė has chosen a smaller hob with two cooking zones and hung all frequently used utensils on the wall. Some TERJE folding chairs have also settled on the wall to take less room when not in use. Another trick for a small kitchen is completing the kitchen cabinets with VARIERA shelf inserts. They help to declutter and make the contents of the cabinet easy to overview and access.

Shared vs. private
Even during the vacation, people want to have a private corner of their own. Therefore, the interior designer Eglė has created a separate bedroom for kids with the age-appropriate SNIGLAR and SLÄKT beds. As little Oskaras grows up, it will be possible to add a pull-out underbed to Aleksandra’s bed so both kids can sleep in comfort and have enough space left in the room for playing or creativity.

Welcome the wardrobe!
After dividing the shared area into separate rooms and choosing space-saving furniture, the interior designer managed to find space in the cottage for a PLATSA storage system. The new wardrobe with drawers and mirror doors is roomy enough to hold all the items and clothes needed during the family vacation.
