“Home idea with IKEA”: a new summerhouse as surprise for parents
Do you like surprises? We certainly do! This is why after having heard that Alina and Aleksandras wanted to surprise their parents by renovating their summer house, we were more than happy to help. See what a cosy space our interior designer Alantė has set up for the family.
Before the renovation
Although recently built, the family’s summer house was furnished with old furniture brought in from elsewhere. It wasn’t comfortable for the whole family to stay at once, as the small house lacked space for almost everything, from storage to sleeping to dining.
Alina and Aleksandras wanted to set up a bright and inspiring space for their parents, the one that could accommodate all the belongings they need during stay and would provide the family with enough room to spend time together.
Bring in the light!
To bring more light into this summer house, interior designer Alantė got rid of the old furniture that was darkening the space. In addition to the new furniture, she matched all textiles and accessories to the light-coloured walls and floors, giving a special attention to lighting. The brightest accent in the living room is the LERGRYN/SKAFTET floor lamp, pointing directly at the coffee table.
Planning to stay overnight?
The HOLMSUND sofa-bed is a smart choice for such a small space, as it can serve as a comfy seating in the living room and quickly turn into a bed at night. In the summer house, the parents usually stay alone, so they can sleep on the sofa as if it was a double bed. In case Alina and Aleksandras want to stay overnight as well, there are two SLÄKT foldable mattresses on the shelves that can be used for sleeping.
There also is a STOCKHOLM rattan armchair in the room. It perfectly matches the whole interior and offers some extra seating for hosts or their guests. We kept an old rug that the owners already had and layered it with the new round VINDEBÄK rug to bring even more softness and warmth into the living room.
Every item has its place
Instead of having several wardrobes or cabinets on different sides of the room, Alantė has placed all the storage furniture along one of the walls. Now the room features not only the three-door PAX wardrobe, but also the ELVARLI combination of open shelves. The latter can hold multiple items, while the transparent plastic SAMLA boxes help to keep everything tidy and easy to find. Of course, we are well aware that the summer house is more for relaxing than tidying up. This is why, to keep all items out of sight, we hid those open shelves behind the TIBAST curtains.
“For storing clothes and other belongings, we have chosen the PAX wardrobe. By combining the frames and doors in this series with a variety of functional interiors like drawers or shelves, you can easily design a wardrobe that meets your needs and expectations, where even the smallest items will find their place. In addition to that, we’ve installed smart lighting above the wardrobe, which makes the summer house even cosier.”

A dining room for two, four or even six
The family really wanted to have a separate space where the four of them could eat together. This was achieved with furniture that takes up very little space: the NORDEN gateleg table and TERJE folding chairs. The table is ideal for breakfast for two and can seat four or even six guests when folded out. The additional chairs can that are stored on narrow shelves at the side of the wardrobe can be simply pulled out and used when needed.
A RÅSKOG trolley has been placed at the entrance door to store kitchen utensils, desk accessories or gloves and scarves in the hallway. The upper part of the trolley can be covered with HÖGSMA cutting board and used as an additional countertop while prepping food. And in the summer, it can be filled with snacks or drinks and moved to the terrace.
