Teacher Liuda could already call her house a dream home—if not for the outdated living room that no longer meets her expectations. She and her husband spend most of their free time here, watching TV, dining and hosting their guests.

What’s missing? The couple is no longer happy with their bulky yet uncomfortable sofa, the dark, uninviting space and the outdated furniture. They dream of a bright, refreshed space—and that’s exactly what our interior designers, Alantė and Jurgita, created for them.

Before the renovation

At first glance, this living room seems like a tough challenge. A fixed fireplace takes up an entire wall, the room has two doors and two windows, and while the space is fairly large, arranging the furniture requires some serious thought. But that’s exactly why our experts stepped in!

Interior designers‘ task:

  • Create a bright living room in natural tones, where the couple can watch TV and enjoy the fireplace at the same time.
  • Ensure the layout provides smart storage for their belongings.
  • Design a functional work area for Liuda to enjoy her knitting hobby.
  • Bring in more light and warmth to create a welcoming atmosphere.

Three rooms in one

A spacious room is perfect for creating multiple zones. This living room has three of those: a cosy TV area with a sofa, a reading and knitting nook with an armchair, and a table that doubles as a workspace or a small dining spot.

Have a seat!

At the heart of the living room is the HYLTARP corner sofa with a chaise lounge—perfect for stretching out while watching TV. Beside it, the KRAGSTA coffee table provides a handy spot for drinks and snacks. And t make the space even cosier, the LOHALS rug in natural jute adds warmth underfoot.

“Make the most of lighting in your living room: use pendant lamps for general lighting, floor lamps for reading, desk lamps for work areas, and spotlights for illuminating shelves.”

A bookcase for more than just books

The BILLY corner bookcase is both a stylish interior element and a practical storage solution. Behind the glass doors, dishes, books and cherished keepsakes can be beautifully displayed, while decorative boxes and the lower closed section keep everyday essentials neatly tucked away.

We placed a table behind the sofa, offering three versatile uses: a workspace for writing or laptop tasks, a dining spot with a view of the TV, or extra seating for guests.

Another cosy addition to the refreshed living room is the STRANDMON armchair with a footstool—perfect for knitting, curling up with a book or enjoying the warm glow of the fireplace.

The wall between the two doors is dedicated to décor, featuring framed family memories and a stand for Liuda’s beloved plants.

The best of both views

Liuda and her husband can now choose where to set their sights in the evenings—whether watching TV or admiring the cosy fireplace. For even more visual interest, we added a sleek, almost invisible shelf for decorations and photo frames alongside BESTÅ cabinets, which neatly hide all the cables.

“Cushions and throws made from natural materials are an easy way to add colour, patterns and textures to your space. Curtains also play a key role in creating a cosy atmosphere—they help block out the cold from windows and can set the tone for the entire interior.”
