“Home idea with IKEA”: atelier and clothing boutique in one

Pausing activity during the national quarantine gives the business more time to rethink and improve their premises. This is exactly what Asta and Karolis who own a clothing boutique decided to do. The couple's atelier where they manufature the clothes was also often visited by their customers. “We would like to make this space cosier for our guests,” wrote Asta in the application form. In response to this request, IKEA interior designer Justina Koskauskė took the family business to the next level. Catch a glimpse of the makeover.

Large space of little benefit
The clothing store is located on the plinth level of the building, so it is quite dark inside. The space looks more like a workshop than a cosy boutique. Although the premises are quite spacious, Asta and Karolis complained to have insufficient space for storage. Hangers for clothes, wooden boxes, sketches and documents were lined up along the walls, leaving too much of empty room in the middle. Different items were kept together, so it took a long time to find something needed.

Customer lounge
Who said the kitchen furniture is only meant for the kitchen? Justina decided to prove the opposite by planning an island out of the kitchen cabinets with BODBYN fronts. The island helps separate the customer lounge area from the rest of the place. Here, the customers can try on the clothes or take a seat and have some coffee while waiting in line. Meantime, the hosts of the boutique can use the island as a counter, a storage unit or a worktop for folding.

For both work and breaks
When furnishing commercial premises, it is important to remember that they will serve for more than just working. Having a lounge area is a must. After all, a desk with chairs is not only useful during breaks or lunches - it can also be used for meetings and creativity sessions. The multifunctional desk in the couple's atelier has a non-standard design. It is custom-made using FINNVARD trestles with shelves and a wide table top for two.

Display area
The ELVARLI storage system with rails and the wooden IVAR shelving units help use the height of the room. They create enough space to store both folded and hanging clothes, and the shelves can be adjusted to suit changing needs. Justina also added some RABBLA boxes with lids for smaller items and accessories. Their lids are made of bamboo and the body material withstands moisture.

Atelier area
The atelier where Asta and Karolis manufacture their goods is hidden behind the ELVARLI unit attached to both the floor and the ceiling. Here, they have everything they might need: a wide desk with functional lighting, enough space for a thermal press and a printer, and a wooden shelving with boxes for storing the already manufactured goods.
